Vote to Save the Vaquita and Other Endangered Species
February 25, 2026

News & Events

A coalition born from the passion of researchers and educators determined to save the world's most endangered marine mammal from extinction.

The Indianapolis Zoo in the USA is raising awareness about endangered species through a competition modeled after the NCAA basketball competition known as “March Madness”.  A total of 64 endangered species were selected to compete; the winner will receive a $10,000 prize and be featured in education campaigns all year.  Species nominated range from green stomach fungus and snowbank slime mold to pygmy racoon and Javan rhino.  The vaquita was selected as the marine mammal representative in the competition.

Anita Vaquita says: “There are only about 10-15 of us left!  Every one of us calves count and every one of your votes counts! Please vote and help us survive!”

Starting March 16, you can vote to help the vaquita advance through the competition and compete for a $10,000 conservation prize that supports conservation efforts. Every vote makes a difference. Rally your friends, family and fellow wildlife supporters to join in.
